Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria warns Cord against playing politics in IEBC talk

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has advised Cord leaders appointed in the select committee for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) negotiation team to avoid causing unnecessary delay in search for a solution. He said the Cord team should come clean to the negotiation table and shun scheming towards introducing fresh demands as Jubilee will only focus on the initial agenda raised during the formation of the team by parliament.

Speaking at Kamukabi village in Kigumo constituency during the burial of Mzee Karanja Mutharika in company of Murang’a governor Mwangi wa Iria, Kuria said the select committee would embrace healthy discussion for the sake of achieving fair and transparent electoral process. He said Kenyans are focused to hold elections next year and the Jubilee negotiation team would not allow any scheme to postpone election date.

“The election date as enshrined in the constitution is August 8, 20016 and we shall not agree to antagonize Kenyans by postponing the exercise due to interest of some politicians,” said Kuria. He however defended IEBC commissioners and staff spread throughout the country saying they have dedicated themselves to their works and have professional careers to protect.

“If there will be changes to be done diplomacy will be used when time comes,” said the lawmaker. During the burial, Iria asked his rivals who include Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau against provoking him by undermining county government initiated programs. He said his administration has implemented development programs that have been prioritized by the residents through public participation forums. “Dairy, education and health are some of the programs my administration has fully supported to uplift living standards of the one million population,” said Iria. Murang’a MP Sabina Chege and Kangema MP Tiras Ngahu who also attended the burial, asked leaders to support each other and shun a culture of undermining others.
